Have you ever wondered if the food you are eating is impacting your skin? Whether you are breaking out more than usual or experiencing seriously glowing skin, your diet is likely playing a bigger role than you think. To put your best face forward, consider incorporating these five superfoods into your diet.

Before we go further, let’s chat about the qualities that make a superfood, well, super. It sounds self-explanatory, but superfoods contain significantly higher amounts of vitamins, antioxidants, and enzymes than other foods. When you chow down on superfoods, you are giving your body a mega-dose of nutrients that it can put towards protecting and repairing your skin.

Our 5 favourite superfoods to incorporate are oats, tomatoes, spinach, blueberries, and chia seeds. To learn about the great skin benefits that each offer, keep reading!

1- OATS

Not only oats is a delicious gluten-free breakfast, but they are also rich in antioxidants and vitamins! Specifically, vitamins A, C, D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc and magnesium which are known to fight acne and can be very effective as a conductive element when using skin technologies such as SkinEnergy or B-BOX Ultra-Derma. Eating this superfood can heal your skin from the inside out and acts as an anti-inflammatory. You can even make your homemade face mask by mixing:

– ¼ cup powdered oats

– Some water

– 1 tablespoon of honey

2- TOMATOES

Tomatoes are loaded with vitamins that are extremely important to the health of your skin: lycopene, collagen, and vitamin A. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that gives tomatoes their red colour, boosts our skin’s natural SPF, and aids in the reproduction of our skin cells. Lycopene also helps produce collagen which promotes elasticity and a youthful complexion. Vitamin A, also known as retinol, encourages healthy skin cell production and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

3-SPINACH

Spinach contains every antioxidant you need for even texture and glowing skin. Chlorophyll, iron, vitamin C, E, and A are just a few of the powerhouses you are consuming when you add spinach to your diet. Plus, vitamin K and folate have been shown to minimize dark circles and acne scars, making your skin extra radiant!

4- BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries can reverse signs of ageing, heal acne, and help your body produce more collagen. They have been called the “King of Antioxidants” due to their powerful ability to protect against free radicals, which speed up ageing and can contribute to cancer if left unchecked. Blueberries make a yummy addition to your morning oatmeal or even to your salad at lunch.

5- CHIA SEEDS

The omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds help soothe inflammation and speed up the healing process of blemishes on your skin. They are also super-rich in zinc, protein, and fibre. Chia seeds strengthen the cell membrane barriers in your skin and keep unwanted toxins out. Soaking chia seeds in water or almond milk overnight form a pudding-like consistency that is easier to digest and maximizes nutrient absorption.

So, join the B-BOX team by incorporating these superfoods into your diet, you will kill two birds with one stone, improve your skin and your overall health.
